Stander gets bronze at MTB Marathon World Champs

South Africa had an impressive showing against 120 of the world’s fastest mountain bikers at the MTB Marathon World Championships in St Wendell, Germany on Sunday. Burry Stander took home bronze while Kevin Evans crossed the line in 25th place followed just under five minutes later by roadie-turned-mountain biker David George in 35th.

Austrian Alban Lakata took overall victory after 107km of riding and 2,556m of climbing in 3:49:55 with Mirko Celestino of Italy second.

In the women’s race Yolande Speedy finished a very strong 14th. Switzerland’s Esther Suss won the race in a time of 4:33:46 ahead of Germany’s Sabine Spitz and Annika Langvad of Denmark.
