Suncoast Multisport Series starts this Sunday

Choose from four different events at Suncoast Multisport Series

The popular Suncoast Winter Multisport Series sets off from the starting block this year with a new title sponsor on-board, as Suncoast Casino & Entertainment World (Suncoast) takes over the reins from the Compendium Insurance Group.

The series features three races in 2011, kicking off on Sunday, 3 April, followed by a race in July (date tbc) and on Sunday, 4 December.

Mike Dowsley, executive director of SUNCOAST, said the new title sponsorship was a natural progression for the casino complex, which has been the location of the race since its inception nearly 12 years ago.

“The Winter Multisport Series has become the leading triathlon series in KwaZulu-Natal and attracts top athletes, recreational athletes and entire families from all over South Africa. This was the perfect opportunity to strengthen our partnership with one of the city’s most popular recreational events,” he said.

The total prize purse for the entire series is R40,000 for the top athletes.

Rookie and Sprint Distance events will be held on all race days, while the final 2011 race on 4 December will also include Olympic Distance events.

There are four different events to choose from on each race day:

Rookie triathlon: (over 8 year of age)

200m swim, 5km cycle, 1.25km run

Rookie triathlon:

1.25km run, 5km cycle, 700m run

Sprint Triathlon: (15 years of age and over)

600m swim, 20km cycle, 5km run

Sprint Duathlon:

5km run, 20km cycle, 2.5km run

Added options for the Olympic Distance events on Sunday 4 December  are:

Olympic Triathlon: (over 15 years of age)

1.5km swim, 40km cycle, 10km run

Olympic Duathlon: (over 15 years of age)

10km run, 40km cycle, 5km run
