Get physical at the 2013 Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival

rotaryroadraceBe sure to wear your party hat when you head down to Knysna between 28 June and 7 July this year, as the Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival will be celebrating its 30th anniversary – and with more than 100 events on the programme, there will be fun for everyone.

“Knysna has long been regarded as the pearl of the Garden Route,” said Festival Manager Nicci Rousseau-Schmidt. “And with pearls being the traditional gift for 30th anniversaries, the 2013 Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival is sure to shine as it presents attendees with a wide array of activities and events. Adrenaline junkies and sport enthusiasts are really in for a treat,” said Nicci. “Planning for festival stalwarts such as the Pick n Pay Cape Times Knysna Forest Marathon and Half Marathon, Pick n Pay Weekend Argus Rotary Knysna Cycle Tour, the Salomon Featherbed Trail Run presented by GU, Knysna Lagoon Challenge 2013 Canoe Race and the Totalsports XTERRA presented by REHIDRAT Sport are right on track, with organisers expecting record entries.”

“Exciting news is that the 2013 Pick n Pay Weekend Argus Rotary Knysna Cycle Tour has been selected as an Official Premier Seeding Event for the 2014 Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour.”

“And of course the cycle tour also forms part of our Big 5 Sports Challenge,” Nicci continued. “Only in its fourth year and already one of South Africa’s fastest growing multi-discipline sport challenges, the Big 5 Sports Challenge pits athletes against their own endurance levels as they take part in five of our major sporting events to test their abilities and skills. But participants are not only pushed beyond their comfort zones, they also enjoy a host of benefits,” Nicci explained. “All participants will receive 10% discount on race entry fees as well as discount vouchers for certain restaurants, activities and shops in Knysna for the duration of the festival. And, of course, bragging rights to having completed five of the toughest, yet most enjoyable races on the Western Cape sporting calendar.”

“Remember that each of the Big 5 Sports Challenge events may also be entered individually,” Nicci urged. “From canoeing to running, from cycling to family forest hiking, the 2013 Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival has a sporting event for the most avid enthusiast, as well as the weekend sportsman and –woman. So load your bicycle, bring your running shoes, your swimsuit and your paddles, and get ready to get physical this winter!”

Bronwen Rohland Director of Marketing Pick n Pay said, “We are thrilled to be celebrating the 30th anniversary of this popular family festival. It’s a chance for us to showcase our offerings to our loyal customers and through our presence there to share our journey to Goodness with them.”

“28 June to 7 July is sure to be the best 10 days of your winter,” Nicci concluded. “Especially if you spend them in Knysna at the Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival, South Africa’s largest lifestyle, sporting and family event. With over 100 sporting, lifestyle, foodie and kiddie events on offer – each of which benefits local communities and charities, the festival truly offers something for everyone. All you have to do is arrive – we’ll take care of the rest.”
