SA paddling mourns loss of Dusi legend Graeme Pope-EllisFriday, 18 June 2010 10:40 SA paddling mourns loss of the KingSouth African sporting icon and top paddler, Graeme Pope-Ellis (62) died in a tragic accident on his farm outside Pietermartizburg late Thursday afternoon. Pope-Ellis was driving his tractor doing some ploughing at about sunset yesterday when the tractor rolled over him. A small fire started which alerted a tenant on the property. “We are absolutely devastated at the news. Graeme was a South African sporting icon having won the Dusi 15 times and paddled it 45 consecutive times” said Ray de Vries spokesman for the Dusi. “I was with him just last week when he rode The Unlimited Dusi Mfula MTB event along the route of the Dusi and he was telling me how much he was enjoying the ride”. Pope –Ellis is survived by his wife Wendy and son Leigh.
