A Blue Sky Ride through Lesotho for 2010!Tuesday, 07 September 2010 14:43 A Blue Sky Ride through Lesotho for 2010!The sixth episode of the 'Big Sky Ride' is set to take place from 2 - 5 December 2010 through the mountain scape of rural Lesotho It has been said of the trip: a mind bending, life shaping experience, lubricated with the anthem, Op, Op, Op, Af, Af, Af… specially arranged with snow in 2009, and planned with Big Blue Sky for 2010…* If you are in for a mountain bike adventure over four days of riding, traversing some of the most exciting mountain roads in Southern Africa, then this trip will appeal to you! Each day includes something special, starting with the ascent of Sani Pass and a night at the Sani Top Chalet which boasts the Highest Pub in Africa. Eventually dirt roads turn into tar across the highest passes before returning to the oxygen rich valleys of the eastern Free State. This ride is an awesome experience limited to just a few, who will be guided across the skies by Nic White. This is a fabulous way to enjoy a trip near to home, but riding into a totally different world. The price of the trip: R5500. This includes transport from Johannesburg, departing on Thursday 2 December early and returning Sunday evening 5 December. Stay in local lodges that are comfortable and rustic, including nights at the enchanted Sani Top Chalet, and the New Oxbow Lodge. The riding itinerary is as follows: Thursday, ride up Sani Pass (2-3 Hours - 25km) 'This trip requires a good level of fitness, but it is not a race, and is arranged so that for most people who have participated have been able to finish the routes. The fitter you are the more enjoyable it will be. It is essentially a mountain bike trip including two dirt road days, but two days are spent on tar. We ride the mtb's gladly on the tar,as the gradients are sometimes intense. A good light bike can make this trip all the more fun.
