Now there’s a lot more for the Friendly City to boast with. PE now offers the international sports tourist the gruelling Spec-Savers Ironman South Africa. For the domestic market, the shorter and highly accessible Axxess DSL Ocean Racing Series has proved it is a magnet for the young at heart (and short of breath) since 2006. BORN in January 2006, the Axxess DSL Nelson Mandela Bay Ocean Racing Series is the largest beachfront event of its kind in Africa and is unique to Nelson Mandela Bay, Africa’s watersport capital. Unlike other beach culture events, the Series is about participation for the public. It’s not an elitist or pro-only contest. It is fun for all ages and abilities. It brings together open water swimmers, fun runners, walkers and ocean paddlers on a fortnightly basis over seven months. The result is a world-class fun event that is accessible to all the city’s citizens without requiring expensive equipment or specialist skills.
