It is time for some real adventure in the ARKZN 24hr race

Come and test your metal in a real adventure race that has pulled out all the stops and has kept it old school adventure racing style, just you the compass and a map.

For a relatively small band of adventurers the idea of doing a race with a marked route, seconding stations, during the day and with known activities is just boring.
If it's not self-assisted and fraught with uncertainty it can't be much fun.

This is the world of the adventure racer.
They move in teams of four, (there must be a member of the opposite sex in the team) and use maps and compasses to find their way to checkpoints in the wilderness. From a starting point and a minimum of instructions they are expected to traverse unknown unmarked routes, by foot, boat and bicycle. Occasionally there will be an obstacle like a cliff or river to negotiate and they will do this with ropes, or rafts or what have you. They learn to carry their own equipment and tend to their own food and drink, and rely on no one but themselves.

The ARKZN 24 hour race is the perfect opportunity for the endurance athlete to test this new mindset.  Starting in the morning and finishing on the following day, the adventure through the pleasant countryside of the KZN Midlands is the perfect training ground for Adventure Racing.

Peatties lake is the start and finish venue with excellent weekend rates for bonafide racers.
The race is self seconding, with alternating team members driving the seconding vehicle on each leg. This in itself can lead to strategies for the team's strength's and weaknesses.

Organiser George Forder says; "We have one or two of these every year as training for the larger events like the Swazi Extreme and deliberately keep it relatively simple and fun".

It's no shame to be beaten by the course and getting lost, facing hardship and recovering are all part of the sport. With the full details of the event on www.ARKZN.co.za and online entries now open, it's your chance to access a new world of adventure sport.
