Salomon Featherbed Trail Run update
Magnetic South has welcomed Petzl on board as the Salomon Featherbed Trail Run's presenting sponsor - with the addition of the NIGHT RUN they had no choice but to get the support of one of the best headlamps on the market.
Desert & Jungle endurance running sensation Ryan Sandes has confirmed his participation in the 2010 Salomon Featherbed Trail Run presented by Petzl, so too has 2008 double winner Rohan Kennedy, who remarkably participated and triumphed in both the Morning & Afternoon Runs.
Add into the mix Salomon sponsored Michelle Lombardi and Cas Van Aardenne who each won their respective categories in the recent Two Oceans Trail Run and you have a top field signed up and ready to write their names into the "Cult Status" this event has achieved in such a short period of time.
NB - Watch out too for the locally based "dark horse" Victor Gugushe.
If this is not enough to motivate you to take on some of South Africa’s top trail running athletes then you can have a go at not being run out by SA cricketing legend Jonty Rhodes who also has given the Salomon Featherbed Trail Run presented by Petzl a big thumbs up.
He will be in Knysna to take it and you on. Will the world ever forget Jonty and his spectacular run out of Inzamam-ul-Haq of Pakistan in 1992.
The newly upgraded routes for the existing Coelacanth & Seahorse Routes are destined to be an absolute mind blower. With minimal need to traverse long stretches of tar/brick roads and the ongoing breathtaking changes in terrain and views are guaranteed to be a total winner and there is no question everyone will be back for more!
More great news is that Magnetic South has partnered up with Garden Route based educational institution, TSiBA Eden, to introduce previously disadvantaged students to what it takes to organise a proffesional and well organised sports event.
Phase One of this multi level project took place recently on Featherbed Nature Reserve with 27 students taking on a challenging nine hour introduction to our industry that included lectures and a 15km physical endurance fitness test. Written exams and further training modules are all happening at the moment so by the time you arrive to register for the 2010 Salomon Featherbed Trail Run presented bt Petzl you will be able to experience first hand the results of this very positive community driven project.
Entries are filling quickly and for those not able to make it during the day a reminder that the first ever NIGHT RUN on Featherbed has been introduced.
