Ibis Tranny

This carbon hardtail has a few tricks up its sleeve, all of them most impressive. It can be converted from a single speed to geared bike in a matter of minutes courtesy of its removable, adjustable-length chainstay.

Behind the bottom bracket there is a slot that allows the chainstay to be lengthened, converting it into a single-speeder.

Travelling is made easier because the whole rear end of the bike can be removed by taking out two bolts that connect it to the frame. This is a big plus if you need to transport the bike in break-down form at any stage. The frame comes in at 1.35kg and Ibis claim that if you dress it up as a full-on single-speeder and put a rigid front fork on you will be down in the road bike weight realm.

The list of unusual features does not stop there. As a result of its ability to transform from a single speed to a geared bike, Ibis have designed the Tranny with removable gear cable stops. Their theory is that you’ll always want brakes, but sometimes you might not want gears.

The two cable stops for the rear derailleur are removable and so are the derailleur cable stops on the top tube. The derailleur hanger is removable for single speed mode. Available in three colour options: matte clear, Granny Smith Apple metallic green and copper metallic (pictured).
