Speedo AquabeatTuesday, 24 May 2011 17:39 Speedo AquabeatSwimming lap after lap can become quite tedious for some, focusing on your stroke and breathing with not much else to do. Some music would make those laps seem more enjoyable now wouldn’t they. Enter Speedo’s Aquabeat, a waterproof MP3 player that can be fully submerged down to three metres. The compact device (35g) clips onto your goggles’ strap at the back of your head. Loading the software using the included disc is easy and so is moving individual songs or playlists over to the Aquabeat via USB cable. It’s also PC and Mac compatible. What isn’t so easy is trying to get your goggles, swim cap and Aquabeat all lined up and cohesive once in the pool. This takes some practice but you soon get used to it.
As the Aquabeat does not feature any kind of display it’s up to you to order your playlist on the computer before moving tracks over. The rewind and fast forward buttons double up as play and stop respectively as well as the on/off switch. There is a beep every time you skip to the next track which is useful. The volume switch has been cleverly positioned on top so it’s easy to adjust while swimming. It also floats, which you’ll appreciate if it comes off by accident. This feature will also come in handy when relaxing in the pool so you don’t have to hold it. The earphones are quite tricky to put on due to their plastic clips that go around your ears but this does help keep them in place. The buds are designed to keep water out which they did quite well. Audio quality isn’t the best but this doesn’t take anything away from the fact that you’re able to swim while listening to music or even a coaching session. It’s available in three colour combinations: green/black, pink/black and all black. Retail: R1 599 (1G), R1 999 (2G)
