FEAT Award to contribute up to R10,000 towards an adventure

Following the success of the inspirational live FEAT events, where South African adventurers speak – for only seven minutes each – about their recent expeditions, FEAT proudly announces a new FEAT innovation: the FEAT Award.

The FEAT Award invites applications from adventurers, of all ages, for funding that will assist in making an adventure possible. “There are some really good adventurous concepts out there but cash is often a major limitation and so these adventures go un-attempted,” says FEAT director, Lisa de Speville. She adds that when you’re an ‘adventure nobody’, even product sponsorships – either at reduced prices or fully sponsored - are pretty much out of reach too.

The FEAT Award will contribute up to R10,000 towards an adventure. There are no limitations to the applicant’s age, expedition duration or location. “We only specify that the applicants are South African and that their adventures are undertaken by non-motorised means; we’re not looking for applications for 4x4 trips and other motorised pursuits,” says de Speville.

The FEAT Award favours applications with original, pioneering and inspirational adventure concepts; it won’t support entries to organised events or commercial and guided trips.

“There are so many reasons for not pursuing an adventure, from family responsibilities, work commitments and financial constraints to a fear of failure. This cash sponsorship aims to remove financial concerns and, with good planning, this money can go a long way,” de Speville says.

Applications for the FEAT Award close on 29 August 2011 with the Award recipient announced at the FEAT Jo’burg event in October 2011. The adventurer has 12-months in which to undertake their adventure and they’ll present their experience at the 2012 FEAT event.

Application information and form for the FEAT Award are available on the FEAT website at www.featsa.co.za.
