Specialized/McLaren Venge all-rounder will have triathlon appeal
Specialized have once again shown that they are international market leaders in terms of design and technology of bicycles and their components and apparel. Their products have continuously performed on the UCI international circuit across all genres of cycling offering their rider’s superb comfort, reliability and durability, as well as performance.
One would expect nothing less from Specialized to match their latest Venge design with a leading automobile high performance brand, to produce the fastest complete performance bicycle in the world. By combining the aerodynamics of the Shiv time trial frame with the lightweight characteristics of the Tarmac SL3, there was no need to compromise on these qualities.
After a nine-month collaboration with McLaren, and after over four and a half years in the making, the S-Works and McLaren Venge prototype made its world debut appearance when it was released to a bevy of international media in Milan San Remo, Italy on 17 March 2011. Available in two models, the S-Works Venge is expected to hit South African shores during June this year, whilst the much-hyped production of the McLaren Venge will make its global debut in September.

“We’re excited to be on the forefront of such global cycling technology,” said Rob Ambler Smith, director of Le Peloton, the South African importer and distributor of the Specialized brand. “We are expecting our first shipment of the S-Works Venge to arrive mid-June, and following the global launch last month, there has been keen interest from the local public and Specialized fans.”
The expected Venge target market would be those riders looking for an all-rounder road bike, that has the ability to stand up to the challenge in triathlons by providing the ultimate combination of aerodynamics and stiffness. Prices will be in the region of R78, 000 for the S-Works Venge SRAM, and approximately R32, 000 for the S-Works Venge Frameset.
Public interest has generated enquiries from discerning cyclists who have added the Venge to their wish list.
