Her drive and commitment to the sport she loves is quite evident. Running has always been her strength which is not surprising as her father, Karl, was a 400m hurdler and 800m runner at national level. “My determination and ‘vasbyt’ definitely comes from my mother’s side though,” says Steyn. Her parents are currently training for the Argus on a tandem. The petite Steyn is also lucky enough to work in an environment that promotes and encourages perfection, the High Performance Centre (HPC) at the University of Pretoria.
