Bryce Viegas interview 2010Monday, 11 October 2010 07:34 Bryce Viegas on the past, present and future of PowermanA Go Multi magazine interview with Bryce Viegas, second at Powerman Malaysia 2009 Not many people know about Powerman. Why?It’s all due to marketing. A few years ago not many people knew about IRONMAN either but just by aggressive marketing of the IRONMAN brand, it has exploded and I believe the same thing needs to happen with POWERMAN. Someone needs to take the bull by the horns, take the risk and aggressively market the brand and it has the potential to take off in a big way. In Europe for example, POWERMAN is a known brand and the races are really well attended both from a participant and spectator point of view. When I first started duathlon in 2001, there was a POWERMAN event in Pretoria and it was a huge success. The atmosphere was amazing and I believe it was one of the best events on the South African and even International duathlon calendar but unfortunately politics got in the way and we haven’t been able to host a POWERMAN event again, which is extremely sad. What big races are you planning to compete in 2010?I was hoping to go to Europe in April to compete in a few races but unfortunately my season hasn’t started very well, I’m struggling with a slight knee injury but focusing on South African Duathlon Championships in Bloemfontein at the end of May. My main goal will be POWERMAN Zofingen in Switzerland which is the POWERMAN World Championships (10km/150km/30km). I would then like to defend my AFRIMAN title in October and then back to POWERMAN Malaysia in November. What advice would you give a youngster looking to get into the sport of Duathlon? An athlete cannot run with money in his pockets. He must run with hope in his heart and dreams in his head.
