The COOP GirlsThursday, 25 March 2010 14:50 UN-COOPEDIt’s great to see people trying something new outdoors not just for their themselves but for charity too. Cycle out of Poverty (COOP) raised over R162,000 for the Goedgedacht Trust in Riebeek Kasteel during their four-day mountain bike ride to the area from Durbanville. After training by Cape Epic rider Ann Harrison, 30 women set out on the trip of a lifetime at the end of 2009. “It was amazing to see a group of women (mostly new to cycling) complete six weeks of training, get fit and then tackle four days of riding. We had the most atrocious weather at times though with torrential rain and huge winds but everybody put in their best and ended each day with a smile. Some even said it was a life-changing experience for them,” said Harrison. The money raised will be put towards a third Youth Community Centre and a container that will house a bike shop to sell and repair bikes for the community. Giant sponsored clothing for the ride.
