December 9, 2010 - Abu Dhabi - 50 teams are assembled in Abu Dhabi and are eager to start the 2010 Challenge tomorrow morning at 8:00. Since this morning at 08:30, when the 50 teams competing in the Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge received their roads books for the 2010 course, the Park Rotana Hotel has been the scene of sustained and heightened activity. With hardly any time to dwell on the specifics of the route that will take the athletes East to West across the Emirate, they were immediately obliged to run the statutory gauntlet of the technical verifications. With so many teams coming to the race for the first time, the necessary process of checking equipment and skill sets prior to the race start tomorrow morning at the Corniche Beach, took on a new importance. For many it is also the first encounter with fellow competitors and potential archrivals. Besides the many adventure racing "giants", a number of less experienced teams are present and all too willing to take on the vast desert expanse of the Rub 'al Khali or the turquoise waters of the Arabian Gulf. A constellation of stellar athletes from the four corners of the globe: South Africa; China; Russia; Norway; Poland; Spain; Australia; Singapore; UAE and USA, to name just a few.
