Critical Mass Ride 28 January 2011

Critical Mass is a bicycle ride that takes place on the last Friday of every month in over 300 cities worldwide.
Part protest and part celebration, but mainly a way to highlight the awesomeness of getting around on two wheels, create awareness of bikes as an alternative and sustainable form of transport, build community and celebrate our love of bikes.
-----------------------------------------------------
This is a ride geared ...(excuse the pun) toward single and 3-speed road cruisers, and upping the awareness of bicycles as a viable commuting/transport method, it is however open to ALL bicycle types and riders.

Here's a video called 'We are Traffic' about the Critical Mass idea:

The last ride was really awesome, we all  stuck together and took to the streets for the first time heading down from Moses Mabhida stadium, past Suncoast, and all the way to Moyo following the beach road (as opposed to going along the promenade as we used to last year).

We are going to do the same route again this time:

For those of you who don't have bicycles and would like to join in we have two options for you:

1. Contact Rich Powell from Street Scene tours to reserve a cruiser bike like this:
http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-ZA/bikes/model/simple.single/8356/46796/
This will only cost you R50 for the night. Pickup at Elangeni Hotel and either wait for us to come past, or meet us at the starting point
OR
2. Email Gabby: 1love4cycle@gmail.com to reserve one of four mountain style bikes for FREE, courtesy of THE GREEN HUB initiative.

6.15pm Point precinct - stop for a chill and view over the harbour at the lookout point.
(bring some snacks/juice if you want)
6.30pm Ride back along the promenade.

Remember the idea with this one is to stay CLOSE TOGETHER and make our prescence felt.

And that's all you need to know! See you today!
