Celebration of cycling in Durban spans three days
It's official - the Tour Durban is back with a bang! With three cycling events, staged over three days, local riders and cyclists from across the country will be spoilt for choice over the weekend of Friday 29 April - Sunday 1 May 2011.
aQuelle, one of the strongest brand supporters of adventure sport in South Africa, is the title sponsor of the event, and with the City Of Durban confirming full road closure and highlighting the event as a priority on their annual sporting calendar, the 2011 aQuelle Tour Durban is set to be bigger and better than ever before, say organisers.

The stakes are high, with sizeable prizemoney for the new Criterium event taking place at The Gateway Theatre of Shopping along the Piazza Strip. Attracting the country's Top Pro Elite riders to compete at the highest level, the event promises to be a high speed start to the weekend of cycling, with superb spectator value and good family entertainment.

With a new and improved mountain bike track, designed by top route marker Ian Wilson and implemented by Impi Concept Events, the challenge is on for both competitive and fun mountain bike riders to head out from The Gateway Theatre of Shopping and into the cane, to get re-acquainted with some Durban dirt!

Road Race event in and around the beautiful City of Durban and over 3 distances (45km, 105km and 125km for Top Pro Elite riders). The Start/Finish at Moses Mabhida Stadium is the perfect setting for this top class cycling event in Durban!
With a broad portfolio of premier sporting events across the country under their belt, Impi Concept Events will be leading from the front as event organisers of the aQuelle Tour Durban.
"We are here to ensure that the 2011 aQuelle Tour Durban is a cracker. We have some valuable partners who have invested in the event to allow us to improve, from the course through to the logistical operations. Our focus is on rider experience, and we are committed to ensuring value for money" explained event director, Stu Berry. "We will be investing R40,000 in building new course and tracks for the MTB section, so those who did last year's race can expect a total change."
"On the road race side, this is traditionally the signature side of the event, and we are proud to announce that the City of Durban have confirmed full road closure for the event," explained Berry, who also confirmed that the road event has also moved to the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium. "In addition, we expect a large number of riders from outside KZN as the event takes place on a long weekend."
And with the added inclusion of an Event Expo at race registration at The Gateway Theatre of Shopping, cyclists countrywide with have been provided a wonderful long weekend option!
