Kachlhoffer wins the CRA International Cycle Classic in MauritiusMonday, 20 September 2010 14:42 Kachlhoffer wins the CRA International Cycle Classic in MauritiusThe CRA International Cycle Classic in Mauritius took place last weekend, and was won from a three man group by Team Medscheme's Hanco Kachlehoffer! It was a 100km route with a tough 4km climb in the middle. Report by Neil Macdonald The pace started out pretty gently but after the climb bunch was whittled down to seven riders which included Hanco Kachelhoffer, Johann Rabie and myself, Neil Macdonald, Yannick Lincoln (Mauritius), Sylvain Georges (France) and Frank Parmentier (Reunion). After the climb on the flatter sections we started to attack and ride a more aggressive race, Georges and Lincoln tried hard to control the attacks but eventually Parmentier, Hanco and I slipped up the road. We tried hard to get rid off Parmentier in a hard gutter section but to no avail. It came down to a three man sprint, I started the sprint early but Parmetier proved to be really strong but it was Hanco who timed his sprint to perfection and took the win from Parmentier and I third. Johann and Arran finished next then Sylvain Georges and Yannick Lincoln in 7th. For interest, Permentier just won the Tour of Seychelles and was 2nd at the Indian Ocean Etoile (July). He is probably the best Reunion rider at the moment. Sylvain Georges is a strong French rider, having won this event and the Tour of Mauritius last year. Yannick Lincoln is a legend in Mauritius, racing road and mountain bikes in SA on occasion as well! It was an excellent weekend racing in Mauritius, the organizers went out of there way to make us feel welcome. Thank you to Bernard and his family for looking after us on the island. We also had the great honor of meeting a two time Tour De France winner Bernard Thevenet. He last one the tour in 1977 which was the year that I was born. He also rode with the South African Alan Van Heerden on the Peugeot Team in the 70's.
