Winand Krawinkel to head up adidas SA

Adidas Group has announced that, effective 1 January 2011, Winand Krawinkel,  will become the new Managing Director for adidas South Africa.

“I am both excited and honoured by the responsibility of leading adidas South Africa, an emerging market that has achieved excellent results during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. I will ensure continuity and work closely with our management team to achieve the business goals contained in the adidas Group’s route 2015,” says Winand Krawinkel.

Before joining adidas, Winand already had extensive experience in the area of Sales and Marketing having worked for Sony, as well as the FIFA Marketing AG where he was Managing Director. He joined adidas in 2006 as Head of Business Development for the Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region and then moved to adidas Italy to become Marketing Director in the summer of 2007.  

At adidas Italy, Winand contributed to the company’s growth in a challenging market, ensuring outstanding brand momentum and building diverse strategies for the Sports Performance and Sport Style divisions of the company. A German national, Winand is a keen sportsman and a family man and has already settled in Cape Town with his family to prepare for the new year.

Winand is replacing Brian Kerby who has been Managing Director at adidas South Africa since 2001. Brian will be taking up new challenges in the management consulting world.

“I would like to thank Brian for building such a strong foundation and for the very professional handover he did with me,” Krawinkel adds.
