Mountain biker and mountaineer team up for charityFriday, 26 November 2010 08:15 7 summits in 7 daysThea-Mari van der Sandt has a dream of becoming the first born and bred South African woman to climb the seven summits. To date she has stood on the top of five summits, only Vinson Massif and Mount Everest awaits…… But before that dream is fulfilled Thea-Mari will be riding the 2011 ABSA Cape Epic with Hanlie Booyens, a well known competitor in mountainbiking and multisport events. Hanlie has won the ladies division of the ABSA Cape Epic in 2004 and 2009. Thea-Mari & Hanlie will take part in the 2011 ABSA Cape Epic as an ABSA celebrity team raising funds for the JAG Foundation. To create awareness of their mission (to complete the ABSA Cape Epic 2011) they plan to summit seven of Boland's best known peaks in seven days (with their mountain bikes in tow). This adventure will bring the mountaineer and the mountain biker together on their favourite mountains - riding and climbing their way to the top of these famous landmarks. Their adventure will begin on Saturday 11 December at Delvera Farm just outside Stellenbosch where Klapmuts kop will serve as a gentle introduction to the tough 6 days that are sure to follow. Joined by a group of JAG kids to cheer them on, this should be an exciting start to an epic adventure. The five days will consist off: On Friday the 17th of December the ladies will attempt the last of the summits scaling South Africa's most famous mountain - Table Mountain. They will be riding from the V&A Waterfront to the foot of Platteklip Gorge from where they will climb the gorge with their mountain bikes on their backs. The finish line will be at the cable car station where they will celebrate their seventh and final summit! And then the ABSA Cape Epic 2011 awaits…
