ProNutro Magalies Monster 2010Buffelspoort Golf Course was a hub of excitement on Saturday, 29 May 2010 when South African mountain bikers toed the line to compete in the 9th annual ProNutro Magalies Monster Mountain Bike Classic. Andrew McLean was victorious in the open men’s category of the 70km ProNutro Magalies Monster Mountain Bike Classic when he crossed the finish line in 3hours24minutes01seconds. According to McLean, the event was great. “This is the first year that I’ve raced the Magalies Monster. The route was really tough and demanding, I just loved it. I especially enjoyed the Monstrous climb as well as all the technical riding. We couldn’t have asked for better weather on the day, it was cool in the morning and warmed up later. The atmosphere amongst my fellow riders was excellent, all in all an Epic event. I will without a doubt be back next year,” says McLean. Jock Green finished second, while Hendrik Kruger placed third. According to women's winner Karien van Jaarsveld, racing close to home was a treat. “The 70km ProNutro Magalies Monster was really tough. The climbs weren’t standard climbs, but technical with lots of rocky sections and single track. The route definitely made me appreciate my dual suspension mountain bike even more. It was awesome being able to take part in an event in Gauteng. The route was well marked with regular water points. I think the event organisers did a great job in putting together an amazing mountain bike race. I had a great day and will definitely be back next year,” says van Jaarsveld who won in 3hours59minutes38seconds. Carla Rowley finished second, while Theresa Ralph placed third.
