XTERRA TV interviews top SA multisport athletes
DUESOUTH XTERRA TV presented by REHIDRAT recently caught up with World XTERRA Champions Conrad Stoltz and Michael Keith at Wildekrans Wine Estate in the beautiful Bot River valley.
Stoltz made history in October this year when he became the first XTERRA athlete to acquire his fourth XTERRA World Championship title. According to Stoltz, his coach, Ian Rodger, was instrumental in his success. “Ian is a genius, his ability to look at the Watts I did on one ride, fine tune the next ride and then work it all into the bigger picture was quite uncanny. Flying the South African flag and being the only person to have four XTERRA World titles (three other athletes each having three) is truly amazing.
I thought of my dad who is now sick with cancer, my mom who has been super supportive, my genius coach Ian, Amber who has stood by me through thick and thin, those special friends, my XTERRA family, sponsors and a surprising number of people who truly share a piece of my winning experience. This win is for us and I call it the Ubuntu Win. Ubuntu being a Zulu saying that means - I am what I am because of who we all are,” says Stoltz who completed the course in Maui in an impressive time of 02:31:07.
Keith followed in Stoltz’ footsteps crossing the finish line in a deserving time of 03:03:13 taking gold in the men’s 15 – 19 age group category. For Keith, competing in Maui was a fantastic experience. “The atmosphere, with so many international competitors was quite special. After crossing the finish line all that I wanted was to lie down and do an immense amount of nothing, but after a while, a grin spread across my face that couldn't be wiped off,” says Keith who will be leaving for the United States in January where he’ll form part of the Mars Hill College cycling team for the next four years.
DUESOUTH XTERRA TV presented by REHIDRAT is a joint venture between Stillwater Sport & Entertainment and Bigshot Media. According to Michael Meyer, Director Stillwater Sport & Entertainment, XTERRA is a sport that can be enjoyed by all. “There has definitely been a surge in the number of athletes moving into the multisport arena, with our local DUESOUTH XTERRA events recording an impressive 100% growth this year. The beauty of XTERRA is that it is enjoyed by both pro and lifestyle athletes alike. The goal of XTERRA TV is to capture the full spirit of XTERRA on film and bring it to our viewers. We hope that each episode will motivate more South Africans to experience life as a XTERRA Warrior,” says Meyer.
Other DUESOUTH XTERRA Warriors interviewed by XTERRA TV on the day included Lieuwe Boonstra, Kent Horner, Dan Hugo, Michelle Lombardi, Hanlie Booyens, Tanya Rabie and Mirriam Stronkhorst. DUESOUTH XTERRA TV is broadcast on Supersport 1 – 7. Footage taken on the day will be included in Episode 11 - 12 which will start airing December and January respectively.
