Wartrail area delivers the goods

According to race organiser Adrian Saffy, the 2011 Garmin Wartrail, held in the mountainous Wartrail area of the Eastern Cape Drakensberg, not far from Tiffendell, was "a huge success."

He says that as promised the mountains where decked out in their finest with pumping waterfalls; greener-than-green slopes and fountain water bubbling up all over.

The bike section was tough and relentless with mudslides; dislodged rocks; goats; cattle; sheep and washed away roads being some of the obstacles.

The paddle on the mighty Orange in flood was an adrenalin-overload with monster swirleys waiting to topple you over and no place to beach because of the high level of water. Any tumble resulted in a monster swim to get back into your kayak.

Graham Bird topped the men's category in a record time.

Jeannette "Bubbles" Walder was the best of the Ladies.

Martin Dreyer's Change a Life team took the team relay.

The Bikes and Wines pair took this division.

"Thank you to all the competitors for making our job easy by staying safe and having the skill and ability to complete this tough grueling challenge," said Adrian.
