Roadshows bring Comrades to the clubs
The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) will be hosting inspiring information sessions and workshops in the Kingdom of the Zulu, starting this weekend. The aim of the workshops is to motivate and get runners fired up to take up the Comrades challenge in 2011, as well as to empower them with the necessary training and injury prevention tips, that will not only see them to the start but also take them through the finish line, come the day of the race.
The first workshop will be held in Africa’s sporting capital at the Nedbank Head Office, 90 Ordnance Road, Durban at 9am on Saturday, 9 October 2010.
The CMA roadshow team then moves onto ‘The City of Choice’, where the workshop will be hosted by the Saints Athletic Club at Coach House at the St Charles College in Harwin Road, Pietermaritzburg at 7pm on Tuesday, 12 October 2010.
From there, the South Coast Striders take up the baton to the seaside resort town of Margate, when they host the CMA workshop at the South Coast Striders Clubhouse at Lot 194 Edward Street in Uvongo at 7pm on Wednesday, 13 October 2010.
Says CMA's Marketing Coordinator Thami Vilakazi, 'Entries for the 2011 Comrades Marathon officially opened on the 1st of September 2010. Not only will we be equipped to answer any questions regarding next year's 86th Comrades Marathon, but we will also have fitness experts on hand to advise novices and experienced Comrades runners on how to prepare themselves for peak performance.' Many runners have credited these workshops for their excellent performances on race day.
He adds, “These workshops are a rich source of first hand information. Runners have an opportunity to ask any race-related questions or enquire about training and injury prevention techniques, as the Comrades Coach is always on hand to respond to such issues.”
These workshops are open to everyone and they are free of charge. For information on more workshops across the country and contact details of the various athletics clubs, please visit the CMA website at www.comrades.com or call the Comrades Marathon Association on 033 897 8650
