Hungarian marathon star for Soweto MarathonFriday, 05 November 2010 11:53 Staicu 'hungary' for Soweto MarathonHungarian Olympian Simona Staicu, winner of the 2003 Two Oceans ultra marathon and the 2006 and 2007 Nedbank Joburg City Marathons, makes her return to South Africa this weekend to compete for the Nedbank Running Club (NRC) in Sunday‘s Soweto Marathon.Staicu recorded her third victory of October in the Budakeszi-Budapest Half Marathon, completing a run of six straight wins. She also won the Jungfrau Mountain trail race in September, an event know for its toughness. Staicu told Nedbank Running Club national manager Nick Bester that the Soweto marathon will be her last major long distance race for the year as she is gears up to try and win the Two Oceans marathon next year. "Since winning in Johannesburg three years ago, I've had my second child but I managed to win my National marathon championships in a fast 2hours 37 minutes and 47 seconds in my comeback race and I'm very happy with my current form," said Staicu Bester added "Simona who has a best marathon time of 2 hours and 29 minutes will be arriving in Johannesburg tomorrow and we are expecting an excellent race by this world class athlete, despite the demanding and historical Soweto Marathon course profile."
