Enter Landmarks Half now

Participants have just over a week to enter the Landmarks Half Marathon (Sunday 7 November) as pre-entries close on Sunday 31 October.

This popular half marathon gives runners a scenic but tough route past key landmarks in the Southern Suburbs.  The route was specifically designed to incorporate some of the heritage sites, world-class sporting facilities and tranquil open spaces within the surrounds of the Western Province Cricket Club Sports Centre in Rondebosch, where the race starts and finishes.

These landmarks include Rondebosch Common, Mostert’s Mill, University of Cape Town, Rhodes Memorial, Newlands Forest, Josephine Mill, Newlands Brewery, Newlands Rugby Stadium and Sahara Park Newlands.

Participants can enter online at www.topevents.co.za or pick up an entry form at any branch of Sportsmans Warehouse or New Balance outlet stores.

Race organiser Chet Sainsbury is on a campaign to encourage schools in the greater Cape Town area to enter as many pupils as they can in the 6km School Challenge to stand a chance of winning their share of R30 000.

Schools wanting to take up the challenge need to fill in an entry form and either email it to sainsbury@kingsley.co.za or fax it to 086 554 0315.  The schools taking part in the challenge will need to register by Friday 29 October between 4pm and 7pm at Western Province Cricket Club Sports Centre.  For entry enquiries please contact the club on (021) 6573330 or Top Events on (021) 511 7130 or email entries@topevents.co.za.

The “Running with Teddies” campaign is part of the event and all participants are asked to bring various children’s toys to the run.  These will be handed over to the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, the event’s official charity.  All runners and walkers can drop their toys off either at the start or outside the Hospital on route.  Anyone who wants to contribute toys and gifts for the children without doing the run or walk can still drop these off at Western Province Cricket Club Sports Centre.

The half marathon starts at 06h00 and the 6km fun run at 07h00.  Late entries will be taken on race day at the Club from 05h00 onwards.

There are some great lucky draw prizes on offer for participants, including tickets to cricket and rugby at Newlands, New Balance running shoes and a selection of meal vouchers at top local restaurants in the area.
