SA swimmers have their best day yetThursday, 07 October 2010 20:04 Our medal tally rises at CommonwealthThe SA swim team are on fire at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi India, bringing home four more medals. If medals aren't enough, they ensured they broke some records too. Both Chad le Clos and Natalie du Toit won gold and set new Commonwealth Records for a second event each. Chad took on the 400m individual medley and made it his own race from the start, by setting a blistering pace in the first 100m butterfly. Chad was joined on the podium by fellow South African Riaan Schoeman in third position. Riaan fought off attacks from either end to poke his head out and clame his well earned podium spot. In the 100m freestyle S9 category event, Natalie du Toit claimed the top spot by breaking her own Commonwealth record set back in 2006 in Manchester. She raced her signature style with a slow start only to bring it home for glory in the end. The womens 800m, the final event for the evening was a thrilling affair between World Record holder Rebecca Adlington and our own Wendy Trott. Rebecca set off hard and fast through the first 500m after which the tables turned in the favour of Wendy. The gap began to close as Wendy hunted her down through the final 100m, but Rebecca had unfotunately made too much ground for Wendy to catch up. Other medals include paralympic athlete Samkeli Radebe in the T44 men’s 100m event, and gymnast Jennifer Khwela in the vault, both won silver as the country’s overall medal tally climbs to 15 after day four. Once again a thrilling evening for SA swimming and SA sport in general. Go Saffa's go!
