Schoeman bags two golds in Berlin

Schoeman two golds, Townsend bronze

Roland Schoeman started off the Berlin leg of the FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup with two gold medals today.

Improving on his time from Tokyo in the 50m breaststroke (26.42), Schoeman raced to the top with a golden time of 26.09. Brazil’s Felipe Lima ended with the silver in 26.78 followed by Stanislav Lakhtyukhov from Russia in 26.89.

Schoeman’s second gold medal came in the 50m butterfly. Beating world record holder Steffen Deibler in the process, Schoeman sped to the top of the podium by clocking 22.39. Deibler took the silver in 22.61 with Russia’s Evgeny Korotyshkin in third (23.15).

In the 100m individual medley, Darian Townsend claimed the bronze with a time of 52.97 behind Brazil’s Thiago Pereira in 52.59 and Germany’s Markus Deibler in 52.17.

The Berlin leg of the FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup concludes tomorrow, following which the swimmers move to Moscow for the event on 2nd and 3rd November.
