The streak of success continues for SA at the African Swim ChampsSunday, 19 September 2010 21:18 The streak of success continues for SA at the African Swim ChampsIt has been pure talent and skill which has seen the South African swimming team to the top of the medal standings on the second last day of the 10th Senior African Swimming Championships in Casablanca, Morocco. Mandy Loots once again broke her own Championship Record in the 200m butterfly when she touched the wall over 6 seconds ahead of team mate Bianca Meyer in 2:11.97. Bianca claimed the silver in 2:18.25. Mandy Loots was certainly not done for the evening when she took to the water in the 200m backstroke. Loots broke Romy Altman's eight year old Championship Record when she clocked 2:15.66 followed by Jessica Ashley-Cooper in 2:17.28. The South Africans continued to impress when Jay-Cee Thomson took the gold while breaking Oussama Mellouli’s 2002 Championship Record in the 200m individual medley. Thomson finished in 2:02.95 with Wesley Gilchrist winning the bronze in 2:06.73. In the men’s 4 x 100m medley relay, Darren Murray, William Diering, Garth Tune and Neil Watson could not be stopped. Leading from the word go, they finished with a new Championship Record time of 3:43.53. Algeria and Egypt finished with the silver and bronze respectively. Tomorrow’s final day sees the men’s and woman’s 5km Open Water race concludes the week long competition. Medal rankings (after day 6):
