Momentum Health I-Flex Duathlon Series 2010 PE reportThursday, 05 August 2010 13:53 Duathlon doubles in size in Port ElizabethSunday 1 August 2010: Round 4 of the Momentum Health I-Flex National Duathlon Series took place at Pollock Beach in the Friendly City of Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. This was the second road event for 2010. Weather conditions were perfect for participants. This event attracted nearly double the 2009 entries. The day started with the brat race followed by the kiddie’s race. Soon after the brats and kiddies received their well deserved medals, the main race got going. Notable names in the women’s elite category included Carla van Huysteen (Germishuys) from Nestle Pure Life and Nadia Pretorius from I-Flex, who currently leads the Grand Prix Series. In the men’s elite category, Brand du Plessis, Lieuwe Boonstra and Johan Pretorius were the clear favorites. From the outset Carla van Huysteen opened up a lead, running the first 5 km in under 18 minutes. Liza-Marie Bright from Port Elizabeth riding strongly made up a 1 minute on the bike leg catching Carla just before entering the second transition. Carla went hard on the last run to take the win over Liza by 56 seconds. Marissa Ferraris from Port Elizabeth took third place on the day. In the men’s elite race, Brand and Johan were head to head on the first run with Lieuwe not far behind. On the bike Brand and Johan stayed together creating a meaningful gap over the rest of the participants. On the final run leg Brand and Johan ran neck and neck until the last 50m of the race, where Johan pipped Brand to take the win by a second. This was Johan’s first win in the Duathlon Series. Lieuwe Boonstra took the final podium position. The points after 4 events are as follows: Open Men:
