Ideal race conditions at The Islands Estate for BSG Energade Triseries second round

Defending champions Andrea Steyn (Team BSG) and Erhard Wolfaardt (Team Mr Price) take gold in the Elite race. Fantastic new venue provides perfect race conditions and enhanced safety for both the Main race and the kiddies series.

Competitors could not have asked for a more perfect setting than the picturesque Islands Estate at Hartbeespoort where race participants arrived bright and early on Sunday, 9 October for the second event of the BSG Energade Triseries.

As the participants warmed up to compete in their age categories they were able to join the spectators who were watching the Boks take on Australia on the BSG big screen, then it was time to head to the start line. The Islands Estate provided competitors with an exciting new challenge as the swim leg of the race took place in the estate’s canals. Besides being the cleanest waters of all of the inland events, these canals gave spectators the unique opportunity to get up close to the action and to follow participants as they progressed though the water. The triathletes enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the Magaliesburg Mountains as they completed the extended 25km cycle leg with its extensive road closures providing enhanced safety for the participants who finished off the race with a 5km run through the Islands Estate.

The Elite Men gave star performances with Henri Schoeman (Team Future Life) leading Abrahm Louw (Team BSG) and Jeff Norton out of the water. The rest of the pack quickly caught up in the 25km cycle and it all came down to the run where Erhard Wolfaardt pulled away to take the gold in a time of 1:00:05. Abrahm Louw finished second in a time of 1:00:38, followed by young Rudolf Naude (Team Future Life) in third position who finished in a time of 1:01:09. Henri Schoeman and Theo Blignaut (Team Inov-8) completed the top five podium positions.

Andrea Steyn (Team BSG) once again dominated the Elite Ladies’ race as she took pole position finishing in a time of 1:09:36, almost two minutes ahead of Roslyn Laurens (Team Future Life) who took second place in 1:11:17. Riana De Lange, Carla van Huyssteen (Team Inov-8) and Vicky van der Merwe (Team BSG) rounded off the Elite Ladies top five.
