FRENCH BIKE MANUFACTURER LOOK and Finnish HRM specialist Polar have teamed up to develop a brand new pedal, the Keo Power, which is based on the Keo Blade design. Put simply, it measures a rider’s power output in watts and left/right balance and sends the data directly to a Polar cycling computer on the bike’s handlebars. Eight sensor gauges are integrated in the body of the pedal and the crank for maximum accuracy. Thanks to this accuracy, the compatible Polar CS600X or CS500 training computers can show the balance between the right and left leg and which one is dominant. It can be switched between bikes and is compatible with any crankset on the market. The 20g injected carbon pedal’s battery has a claimed life of five months if used three hours a day, seven days a week. Christo van der Walt of Advanced Velo Imports, importers of LOOK into South Africa, says he expects this system to shake up the market. “I have had a lot of queries so far. What makes this system great is the low weight, user friendliness and accuracy,” says Christo. It is expected to retail between 1,800 and 2,000 Euros when it hits the market in 2011. The planned local release date is April/May but pricing is still to be confirmed.
